The Golden State Warriors’ woes continue following the heartbreaking one-point loss at the hands of the Sacramento Kings.
After the final buzzer, the score was 134-133 in favor of the Kings, who improved their record to 25-18 this season.
However, the Warriors had a perfect chance to win the game following two missed free throws by Kevin Huerter during the final seconds of the game.
Unfortunately, the Warriors missed the chance by failing to call for a timeout when Stephen Curry had the ball in his hands with just 7.4 seconds left on the clock.
While many have berated Curry for making the mistake, head coach Steve Kerr could have called for a timeout as well.
The veteran Warriors coach explained his decision to let the game continue in the postgame conference via Bleacher Report on YouTube.
“These guys have been together for so long. I really prefer the scramble situation at the end of games where the defense can’t get set up and make subs. So this is one that it keeps you up at night,” Kerr explained his controversial decision against the Kings.
Kerr revealed that he showed trust in his veteran players like Curry and Draymond Green to run the correct play.
Moreover, he simply didn’t want to call a timeout, which would have allowed the opposing team’s defense to settle down and possibly make substitutions to bring more skilled defenders on the floor.
Unfortunately, the dynamic duo of Curry and Green failed to score from their pick-and-roll play, leading the Kings to register a memorable win.
Following the loss, the Warriors have spiraled to a 19-23 record as they once again failed to move up from the 12th seed in the Western Conference.
