When it comes to the best players in the NBA in the past decade or so, there’s hardly anyone who’ll leave Kevin Durant off that elite list of players.
Durant undoubtedly has an amazing resume, which includes two NBA championships, one NBA Finals MVP, and one NBA MVP, among other accolades.
However, even though Durant has had a successful career in the league, some don’t consider him one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
The Phoenix Suns superstar has received that treatment for years and finally asked the NBA community about the true reason behind it.
Ever since Durant’s comments, many have shared their true thoughts on it, and the most recent person to weigh in was none other than the veteran NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith via his official YouTube channel.
“Here’s the problem, KD: You left Oklahoma City after losing a 3-1 lead and falling in Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder with Russell Westbrook as your teammate and then you departed a month later to the Golden State Warriors,” Smith said.
Smith has never been a person who minces his words to please the ego of an NBA superstar, and the veteran analyst did just that when providing an answer to Durant’s question.
Smith pointed out that the reason no one considers Durant the GOAT is due to his decision to join the Golden State Warriors in 2016.
A key reason behind the hatred that Durant received was the fact that the Oklahoma City Thunder blew a 3-1 lead to the Warriors in the 2016 Western Conference Finals.
Instead of trying to make a comeback in the next season, Durant decided to take the easy way out by forming a superteam with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
