Something special seems to be happening with Jonathan Kuminga of the Golden State Warriors.
So far this preseason, Kuminga has been absolutely essential for the team and has been putting up some of the best numbers of his career.
He has scored 24, 26, and 28 points in his first three preseason games, according to Ballislife.
He has also scored multiple steals, blocks, and rebounds during those games too.

In preseason so far:28 PTS, 13 FT, 6 REB (39% FG)
26 PTS, 3 3PT, 2 STL (75% FG)
24 PTS, 4 3PT, 2 BLK (57% FG)pic.twitter.com/LG0KNybQDz— Ballislife.com (@Ballislife) October 16, 2023
Last season, Kuminga scored an average of 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
He played for an average of 20.8 minutes per game and only started in 16 of 67 games.
All of those numbers could greatly increase in 2023-24.
It is clear that Kuminga has been working incredibly hard during the summer and is intent on being better than ever before for the team.
The 21-year-old big man could end up with a much bigger role in the new season.
There is no doubt that head coach Steve Kerr is taking note of what Kuminga has done during these three games.
He was all over the team’s tight victory over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night.
Kuminga was on the court for 34 minutes and was effectively the team’s leader, as Stephen Curry sat out and Klay Thompson only played for 16 minutes.
Is this a taste of things to come in 2023-24?
The Warriors’ coaching staff is obviously toying with the idea of a much larger, more physical team in the new season.
If they decide to rely on bigger players then Kuminga could become even more of a focal point for offense and defense.
He looks ready for that responsibility.
