Klay Thompson has spent his entire career with the Golden State Warriors and has played an instrumental role in helping the Dubs win four NBA championships in the modern era.
However, since returning from back-to-back, potentially career-ending injuries, Thompson is undoubtedly no longer the player that he once was.
In fact, Thompson’s numbers and shooting efficiency have dipped far below his standards in the 2023-24 season.
For months, Thompson had been trying to reclaim his past glory, but the Warriors veteran has finally accepted a reduced role to stay with the team.
Thompson proved his worth to doubters in the Warriors’ recent matchup against the Utah Jazz.
Upon seeing vintage Thompson back in action, analyst Monte Poole made an encouraging admission about him via Warriors on NBCS on Twitter.
“He has been struggling all year, not just on the court, but also just trying to figure out where his place is on this team. He wants to be the old Klay Thompson, and I think he has realized that he can’t get that guy back,” Poole said.

Poole pointed out how Thompson has finally figured out his role within the Warriors organization.
As per the NBA analyst, the primary reason behind Thompson’s excellent game against the Jazz is that he has realized he cannot get his previous version back.
After all, Thompson recently turned 34 years old, and is arguably out of his prime.
But that didn’t stop him from adding 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists for the Warriors against the Jazz.
Thanks to Thompson’s efficient 11-of-19 shooting performance, the Warriors managed to register a solid 129-107 win over the Jazz.
Thompson is now averaging 17.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the season.
