The future between Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors looks very unclear right now.
All season long, there has been a ton of speculation about a contract negotiation for the five-time All-Star but reports have said that any deal has been difficult to complete.
According to Shams Charania, the two sides are “not close” on any possible extension.
Speaking on Run It Back, the NBA insider stated that the Warriors actually offered Thopmson a deal in the range of two years and $48 million before the season began.
But now, “there’s no deal,” according to Charania.
"[Klay Thompson's] future has been in question…I'm told that the Warriors offered a deal, 2 years in the range of 48 million dollars in an extension to Klay Thompson before the season, and now there's no deal."@ShamsCharania on the current state of the Golden State Warriors.… pic.twitter.com/B0T6rRMo5K

Charania’s reporting came just hours after Thompson had a horrible night with the Warriors.
He scored only 7 points in 27 minutes against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night, going 2-of-10 from the floor and just 1-of-8 from the three-point line.
Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Kevon Looney all performed poorly and were benched in favor of younger players as the Warriors attempted to overtake the Suns.
They didn’t and the Suns snuck by the Warriors, 119-116.
Now the team is left with many questions.
Steve Kerr showed that he is willing to bench beloved players if they aren’t performing well but will he make a permanent adjustment to the starting lineup soon?
If Thompson is no longer a starter, what does that mean for future contract negotiations?
Will he be able to break out of the rut he is in and will the Warriors be able to climb higher in the standings?
When the season started, no one knew what Thompson’s path ahead looked like.
Several months into 2023-24, that path is still a mystery.
