Kevin Durant did a lot for the Golden State Warriors when he played for them from 2016 to 2019.
But because he left the team after several seasons, some fans feel disgruntled about Durant and don’t want his number to be retired.
Durant believes that no matter how things went down with the Warriors, he should still receive that honor.
Speaking with Andscape, via Legion Hoops, he touched upon this:
“Look at the resume. That would warrant me to get a jersey retirement, right? I love that organization. I love my time there, seriously. Me leaving, people shouldn’t doubt that, because I left there.”

As Durant requested, it’s time to look at his numbers from his time in the Bay Area.
Durant averaged 25.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists during his three years with the Warriors, shooting 52.4% from the field.
Of course, he also helped the team secure two more Finals victories during that tenure and scored two Finals MVP trophies too.
There is no doubt that he had a huge impact on the team and was perhaps their most important player during that stretch of time.
Golden State CEO Joe Lacob recently said that “no other player will ever wear No. 35 for the Warriors again” but didn’t specifically mention hanging the jersey in the rafters.
The Warriors are home to several heroes of the game, including Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
Those three will certainly have their numbers retired when they say goodbye to the NBA.
Durant wasn’t with the team as long as they have been, but he helped lead them to the playoff promised land multiple times.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean he will have his number retired.
