To say that Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors has had a difficult season is a major understatement.
Not only has Thompson been averaging some of the worst numbers of his career, but his team has also been suffering and he hasn’t been able to secure a contract extension.
Writing for The Athletic, Marcus Thompson II said that the Warriors star needs to accept his current status and his potential future.
“If [Thompson] had hopes of the Warriors’ inking him to one last massive contract, that’s probably got less of a chance than one of his off-balance contested threes,” Thompson said.

For the season, Thompson has averaged 17.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.
Those are a drop-down from his last few seasons but the most concerning thing about the season for Thompson has been his three-point percentage.
Last year, he was landing 41.2% of all three-point attempts but this year he is sinking just 37.1%.
That is the worst three-point percentage of his career, even worse than 2021-22 when he returned after more than two seasons away because of an injury.
When the season began, there was a lot of talk about Thompson trying to hash out a contract extension with the Warriors.
Some people thought he’d earn a max contract while others thought the front office wouldn’t offer him that.
But months later it seems very unlikely that Thompson is going to get a large extension from the Warriors.
In fact, there is a growing chance that he won’t even be with the team for much longer.
Years ago, the idea of Thompson leaving the Warriors felt incredibly far-fetched, but now it doesn’t seem so unbelievable.
